On track for arrival in Ollantaytambo tomorrow!

Keri and I have been a little worried about being more of a burden than a help, but after emailing with Kennedy, Awamaki´s Director in Ollantaytambo, she assured us that everything is still on course and they are excited for our arrival tomorrow. We think that we will be splitting our time between the health clinic and helping to rebuild homes. Kennedy sent out the montly newsletter with some photos of the Ollantaytambo area. It doesn´t look good. Ollantaytambo was one of the towns hit the hardest by the floods and destruction. We´ll just have to see when we get there tomorrow.

Keri and I have really been enjoying our lazy days here in Lima. We have definitely been walking upwards of 5-6 miles (or more) each day. We spent yesterday in the city center of Lima, seeing sights such as the Plaza de Armas, Iglesia de San Francisco, the Lima Cathedral, and too many more to name. We were too cheap to pay for the "hop on and hop off" city tour bus so we just walked to all the places listed on that map. The cathedrals, churches and parks are absolutely beautiful. The architecture is amazing. It reminded me of being in Spain. We really enjoyed seeing the catacombs in the Iglesia de San Francisco. Although we never did do anything with our forensics masters degrees, we still love to look at bones!

We´ve been enjoying the peruvian cuisine as well. The seafood is so fresh and amazing. I´ve had seafood for dinner every night. We haven´t quite changed to the timing of meals here, but we are still really enjoying it all. Three days in and no stomach problems as of yet. So keep those fingers crossed for us!

Today we took a 2.5 hour walk down the length of the beach. It was a beautifully sunny and clear day today. There is a bike/walking path that edges the beach and is just one park after another. We walked until we could walk no more and then circled back. The beach is actually down from some cliffs so the path we walked on was high up above the coast. It is really a beautiful view. As I read people´s comments about a snow storm at home, I am glad to be here in the warmth. Today was pretty hot, but the breeze is great.

Our flight leaves Lima at 10:10am tomorrow and we land in Cusco around 11:30. We will be picked up and taken to our homestay in Ollanta. I will have two and a half days to determine where I can watch the Super Bowl!

Hope all is well at home!
